I’ll never forget the day my daughter walked into the living room with a mischievous grin on her face. She took a deep breath and let out a dramatic declaration that had me wondering what on earth I had done wrong. “Dad, I need you to do something for me,” she began.
Her words sent my mind racing with worst-case scenarios. Had she gotten into trouble at school? Was she in some kind of financial bind? I steeled myself for the worst, expecting her to ask for money or help with some kind of crisis.
But as she continued, her words only added to the confusion. “Cancel my allowance, rent out my room, get rid of all my clothes, and take away all my electronics,” she said, her voice dripping with drama. I was starting to get worried – what was going on with my daughter?
And then, just as I was about to ask her what was wrong, she dropped the bombshell. “Dad, I want you to meet my new boyfriend,” she said, a sly smile spreading across her face. I couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all – I had been totally set up.
