Recently, several parents shared their children’s confusing homework questions on social media, seeking help from the online community.
In one instance, a first-grade student was asked to identify pictures with the same ending sound as a fish’s fin. The options, however, were a hamburger bun, a frog, a jar lid, and a spoon. Reddit users came to the rescue, explaining that the ending sound didn’t necessarily need to rhyme with “fin.” The answers, they suggested, could be “bun” and “spoon,” both ending with the letter “n.”
Another parent was stumped by a kindergarten worksheet asking for a three-letter word to describe a picture of a rabbit with her bunnies. A kind Reddit user suggested the answer was “pet,” explaining that these types of worksheets often try to trick children by switching the sound of the letter to the end of the word.
A third-grade math problem also left parents scratching their heads. The question asked, “Janell had 15 marbles. She lost some of them. How many does Janell have now?” Reddit users debated the answer, with some suggesting it was a trick question and others proposing answers like “less than 15” or “she has some left.”
