Kathie Lee Gifford’s Road to Recovery After a Painful Fall

Kathie Lee Gifford’s journey to recovery has taken an unexpected turn. The 70-year-old former Today co-host recently suffered a fractured pelvis in two places after a fall while recovering from hip replacement surgery.

Gifford shared with PEOPLE that she had been overexerting herself during book signings in Nashville, where she “moved 300 books by myself.” This physical strain weakened her body, making her more susceptible to injury. The next day, while hurrying to the door to meet a friend, Gifford tripped and fell, resulting in a painful fractured pelvis.

Gifford describes the experience as “humbling” and acknowledges that she needs to slow down and listen to her body. Despite the challenges, she remains optimistic and focused on her recovery. Gifford spent over a week in the hospital, undergoing physical therapy to aid in her healing process.

This setback comes after Gifford’s hip replacement surgery, which she underwent due to her active lifestyle. Her surgeon attributed her need for surgery to her years of climbing mountains, performing on stage, and wearing high heels. Although the recovery has been painful, Gifford doesn’t regret her decision to live life to the fullest.

Gifford’s hospitalization hasn’t stopped her from celebrating the release of her new book, Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior. The book gives readers a deeper understanding of the historical context surrounding the birth of Jesus. Gifford’s son, Cody, encouraged her to write the book, which she hopes will bring people hope and inspiration.

Throughout her recovery, Gifford remains committed to her faith and her desire to serve others. She prays that she can continue to be useful, kind, and loving to those around her, and that she can represent the kingdom of God through her actions.
