The life of a shelter dog can be a difficult one, filled with rejection and uncertainty. For Major, a 4-year-old terrier/pitbull mix, the wait for a forever home has been especially cruel. After 260 days in an Indiana shelter, Major has lost hope, and his spirit is dwindling.
Major’s story began last summer when he was taken in as a stray by the Humane Society for Hamilton County. Despite being microchipped, his original owners never came to claim him, leaving Major to face an uncertain future. Initially, Major’s personality shone through, and shelter staff described him as “sweet and sensitive,” a “true companion with a big heart” who loves to play.
However, as the months went by, Major was constantly passed over by potential adopters. The rejection took its toll, and Major’s bright personality began to fade. Shelter staff reported that he would sit in his room and “cry endlessly,” a heartbreaking sight to behold. In an effort to alleviate his stress, the shelter moved Major out of the kennels and into the visiting room, but it’s clear that what he really needs is a loving home.
Major’s ideal home would be one without young children or cats, as he can be strong and boisterous at times. However, with patience and understanding, he has the potential to be a loving and loyal companion. As his adoption page reads, “If you’re ready to welcome a loving, strong, and playful friend into your life, Major is the one for you!”
For those in the area, interested in adopting Major, the process begins with an application on his adoption page, followed by a meeting at the Humane Society of Hamilton County. It’s heartbreaking to see Major lose his spirit, and we can only hope that he finds his forever home soon.
