A Valentine’s Day to Remember

Cora’s eyes sparkled as she prepared a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner for her husband, Eric. She had spent the morning cooking his favorite dishes and setting the table with candles and rose petals. The aroma of freshly baked red velvet cheesecake wafted through the air, and she couldn’t wait to see the look on Eric’s face.

But when Eric walked in the door, his expression was far from delighted. Instead, he was furious, his anger sparked by the sight of dirty dishes in the sink. “Are you serious?” he yelled, his voice echoing through the house. “Is this why I work my ass off? So you can blow everything on some sort of crap like this?”

Cora’s smile evaporated, and she tried to calm him down, but Eric’s anger only intensified. He spat out his food, criticizing her cooking, and mocked her for being a terrible homemaker. The gift she had carefully wrapped and placed beside his plate was flung on the floor, and Cora stormed out of the house to buy diapers for their crying triplets.

As Eric continued to grumble and mock Cora, he had no idea that their Valentine’s Day dinner would be their last moment together. An hour passed, and Cora didn’t return. Eric’s anger turned to frustration, and he was about to call her when the doorbell rang. A police officer stood on the porch, his face somber.

“Does Cora live here?” the officer asked, his voice gentle. Eric’s world came crashing down as the officer delivered the devastating news: Cora had died in a car collision on her way to buy diapers. Eric’s anger turned to grief as he identified Cora’s body and buried her the next day.

In the days that followed, Eric was consumed by regret. He remembered the gift Cora had prepared for him, and his heart broke as he unwrapped it. Inside, he found two plane tickets to Hawaii and a note expressing her love and excitement about their future together. Eric sobbed uncontrollably, realizing too late the sacrifices Cora had made for their family and the love she had shown him.

From that day on, Eric’s life was forever changed. He dedicated himself to raising their triplets, but every Valentine’s Day, he would visit Cora’s grave, wishing he could turn back time and ask for her forgiveness. The memory of that fateful Valentine’s Day would haunt him forever, a reminder of the importance of love, appreciation, and forgiveness.
