Chris Rock makes brutally controversial joke about Luigi Mangione’s alleged killing of healthcare CEO in New York

Chris Rock made the comment during his recent opening monologue for SNL

During his appearance on Saturday Night Live (SNL), comedian Chris Rock opted to make a controversial joke about the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The comedian, 59, appears to be as savage as ever after Will Smith slapped him in the face at the 2022 Oscars.

He clearly no longer gives a s**t, perhaps he never did, after pulling out a number of ‘controversial’ jokes on Saturday evening (14 December).

On the night, the Everybody Hates Chris actor took aim at UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, who was shot dead by a masked gunman outside the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan on 4 December.

Ivy League graduate Luigi Mangione, 26, was charged with murder last Monday (9 December) and has pleaded not guilty.

Taking to the stage, Rock told the live audience: “We got Luigi. You know, and that’s good.

“I really feel sorry for the family. Everybody’s fixated on how good-looking this guy looks.

“If he looked like Jonah Hill, no one would care. They’d already given him the chair already, he’d be dead.

“But he actually killed a man — a man with a family, a man with kids. I have condolences. I have real condolences for healthcare CEO. This is a real person, you know?”

He then hit viewers with the punchline: “But you also got to go, ‘You know, sometimes drug dealers get shot’.”

Mangione is currently being held in Pennsylvania on additional charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, forgery and providing false identification to police.

Meanwhile, Rock was keen to speak about current affairs in his seven-minute monologue, mentioning the President-elect Donald Trump.

“Trump had a good year, man,” he began. “Trump survived an assassination attempt.

“Won the presidency again by winning the popular vote. Was just named ‘Time’ man of the year. You know?

“It could happen to a nicer guy.”

The stand-up continued to joke about how the US presidency role is not what people think it is.

“A lot of people are scared. Like, ‘oh, my God, he’s going to be so undignified,’” he said.

“When I say a lot of people, I’m talking about the nine New Yorkers that didn’t vote for him, okay?

“Come on, man, this is not the most dignified job in the world.

“We’ve had presidents show up to the inauguration with pregnant slaves, okay? And I’m just talking about Bill Clinton.

“Dude. It’s the United States. I mean, you know what country we live in. You know the history of this country.”
