Having young kids often means dealing with mattress stains from nighttime accidents, which can be frustrating even when using mattress protectors. Moisture sometimes still gets through, leaving stains and odors that are tough to remove.
Katelyn Fagan, a mother of four and blogger, shared her trusted method for cleaning urine stains from mattresses. Even though her daughter had been potty trained for over a year, bedwetting continued, and the mattress protector wasn’t fully protecting the mattress.
Katelyn’s homemade cleaning spray uses simple ingredients you probably already have: hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, dish soap, and optional lavender oil. She combined 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and a drop of dish soap in a spray bottle, adding lavender oil for a pleasant smell. She mixed gently to avoid too much foaming.
She sprayed the solution generously on the stains, letting it soak in to lift the urine. Once dry, she vacuumed the baking soda residue away. The mattress looked and smelled much better, with stains fading and odors gone.
This method is safe, affordable, and easy for parents to do at home. It’s a practical way to keep your child’s mattress clean and fresh without harsh chemicals or costly cleaning services.
