Keep Your Skin Soft This Winter with These Nine Tips

As temperatures drop, it’s normal to experience dry, flaky skin. The cold, dry air sucks moisture away, but you don’t have to suffer. There are many easy ways to keep your skin smooth and hydrated no matter the season.

Hot showers can worsen dryness, so try to keep water warm, not hot, and limit your time in the shower. After washing, gently dab your skin dry and apply moisturizer quickly to seal in hydration. Shaving with proper gel and a sharp razor also reduces irritation. Don’t forget to moisturize your hands regularly, especially in winter.

Adding a humidifier at home can keep the air moist, which helps your skin stay healthy. Natural oils like olive oil offer antioxidants and vitamin E that repair dry skin but use sparingly and avoid your face. Oatmeal baths are great for soothing itchiness, while coconut oil works well as a nighttime moisturizer.

Milk compresses can reduce inflammation and exfoliate gently, and aloe vera helps retain moisture, though you should test for sensitivity. Honey’s healing properties are ideal for rough patches but apply cautiously. Petroleum jelly remains a classic for preventing dryness, but those with acne should be careful.

Look for creams containing hyaluronic acid, shea butter, or glycerin, which lock in moisture better than lotions. Choose fragrance-free products to avoid skin irritation. If your skin doesn’t improve, visiting a dermatologist might be the best next step.
