The Springsteen family has been facing a tough time lately, with both Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa dealing with health issues. In a recent revelation, Scialfa shared that she has been battling multiple myeloma, a type of cancer, since 2018.
Scialfa, a member of the E Street Band, made the disclosure at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Springsteen’s documentary Rock Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. She explained that her diagnosis has affected her immune system, forcing her to be more cautious about her activities and travel.
As a result, Scialfa has had to scale back her touring schedule with the E Street Band. However, she has been making occasional appearances on stage, singing a few songs and enjoying the experience. Despite the challenges, Scialfa seems to have come to terms with her new normal, saying, “I’m OK with that.”
Scialfa’s health issues aren’t the only concern for the Springsteen family. Bruce Springsteen has also been dealing with his own health problems, including peptic ulcer disease, which forced him to postpone his tour dates in September 2023. More recently, he had to cancel a few shows in the summer of 2024 due to vocal issues.
Despite these challenges, the Springsteen family remains resilient. Scialfa has been focusing on her solo album and spending time with her granddaughter, Lily Springsteen. As fans, our thoughts and prayers are with Patti Scialfa as she continues to fight multiple myeloma.
