Texas Camp Floods Claim Lives of Several Young Girls, Families Speak Out

The tragic floods at Camp Mystic in Texas have led to the loss of several young girls, whose families have now shared their names. The disaster, part of widespread flooding across Texas, has resulted in 82 deaths so far.

Camp Mystic, a Christian camp for girls that has operated since 1926, was home to about 750 campers during the flood. Governor Greg Abbott confirmed the numbers and ongoing rescue efforts.

Victims include Renee Smajstrla, Sarah Marsh, Janie Hunt, and best friends Eloise Peck and Lila Bonner. Renee’s family expressed thanks for the rescue teams, Sarah’s grandmother spoke lovingly of her, and Eloise and Lila’s families asked for privacy. Janie’s mother described the heartbreak while noting other relatives at the camp remain safe.
