Passengers Stranded for 17 Hours After Flight Diverted Due to Smoking Incident

A flight from Cancun to London was forced to divert after two passengers smoked in the airplane toilets, causing a major delay and leaving everyone stuck for nearly 17 hours. The captain warned that continued smoking would lead to diversion, but the behavior persisted.

The plane landed at Bangor International Airport in Maine late on July 8, where the offending passengers were removed. However, the flight could not continue immediately because the crew had exceeded their allowed working hours.

The pilot warned that the flight would divert if the people continued to smoke

Passengers remained on the plane for hours and were eventually moved to a waiting area inside the military section of the airport. They stayed there for over 15 hours as the airline arranged a new crew to complete the journey.

A replacement flight finally took off the following afternoon, bringing all passengers safely home. While the trip ended well, the unexpected delay caused significant frustration and discomfort for those on board.
